Common questions

How is my age calculated?

On the calendar, the way people count birthdays — never by dividing a number of days by 365. The app counts whole years, then whole months, then the days left over. When a month is shorter than your day of birth, its last day is used: one month after 31 January is 28 February (29 February in a leap year).

Only the date of birth counts, not the time of day, so time zones and daylight-saving changes never shift the count by a day. "Today" is the date on your phone. Total weeks are whole weeks — total days divided by 7, rounded down. Dates follow the Gregorian calendar.

I was born on 29 February — when is my birthday?

In years that have no 29 February, the app treats 28 February as your birthday: the countdown points to that day and your age goes up by one year on it. In leap years your birthday is 29 February as usual. This is a common convention, not a legal rule — some countries use 1 March for legal purposes, so check the local rule if it matters for a document.

Why can't I pick a future date?

An age can only be counted from a day that has already happened, so the date-of-birth picker ends at today. If the app shows "Date of birth can't be in the future.", check that your phone's date is set correctly. To count the time until a day that is still ahead — an exam, a trip, a due date — use Date difference, which accepts future dates.

What is "Date difference"?

Tap Date difference on the main screen to see the time between any two dates from 1800 to 2200, in years, months and days, plus the total number of days. From starts on your date of birth if you have entered one, To starts on today, and each has a Today button.

The order does not matter: if To is earlier than From, you get the same interval, not an error. The count runs from one date to the other, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day, and the same date twice is 0.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Everything is calculated on your phone, so the app works in airplane mode. The internet is used only for the small banner at the bottom. Offline, the banner shows from the last list the app downloaded (kept on your phone and used for at most 30 days); if there is none, it simply does not appear. Nothing else changes.

Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?

No. The dates you enter are kept in your phone's memory only while the app is open and are not saved, so the next time the app starts fresh you enter them again. They are never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no tracking.

What is the banner at the bottom?

It shows one of our own apps and is labelled "Ad". It does not come from an ad network: the app contains no advertising SDK, does not track you and does not use the advertising identifier, and there are no pop-up or full-screen ads.

To choose what to show, the app downloads a short list of our apps and their icons from this website, and keeps the latest copy on your phone so the banner can also show offline. The copy contains nothing about you. The request contains nothing you entered and no identifier. Like any web request, it shows our server your IP address, and the server keeps no log of these requests. An app you already have is left out: the app asks your phone's system whether our own apps (only those, never a list of everything installed) are present, and uses the answer on the phone only. It is never stored or sent to us. Tapping the banner opens that app's page on the App Store or Google Play. When there is nothing to show, there is simply no banner. How do I change the language?

The app follows your phone: it uses the first language in your phone's language list that it supports, and English when none of them match. It is available in 73 languages plus European Portuguese, including right-to-left Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu.
